I have been recognizing a trend in society that disturbs me somewhat.
This trend is that of social inaction. Now, I am in no way a political or social activist, but am concerned, as many are, with the path our nation and the world is taking. The social inaction that I am speaking of stems from a feeling of powerlessness. Yes, amongst all the yelling and fighting that is going on about all the different issues that we face, there is an overwhelming undercurrent of a lack of power. I hear all the complaints and see the posts where individuals and organizations vent what they think is wrong with the specific issues that they are addressing and the thoughts, that often turn to rants, on how they think it should be fixed.
What good comes from me telling those who already agree with me what I think about a particular subject? Very little.
This nation is known, historically, for those individuals who stepped out and started working to fix a problem, through creative means, but in this negative and polarized environment, creative thinking and doing are not as prized as you may be led to believe by the words that are spoken. When individuals seek to find ways to better themselves though knowledge, education or some creative means, they are ridiculed and excluded from groups on all sides of the social polarization. Sell out, mooch, busybody, know-it-all, or lazy, just to name a few of the interesting terms that come to be associated with those who fall outside the norms constructed by these polarized groups that are vying for power and the opportunity to be "right."
Most importantly, I want to remind us all that our determination to complete any task that is set before us should not be squelched by any force. If you have need of education, financial independence, social influence to empower you to affect the changes that you feel are necessary, or you just have a good idea that you would like to share with us all: Pray for the guidance to be certain you are on a righteous path and for strength from the Lord to accomplish that task.
If we look, we will find a solution to those seemingly insurmountable road blocks that we, ourselves, and society have placed in our way.
